High School football season in Florida is well underway, and with all the storylines that have already come to light this season one that has been flying under the radar is the season Archbishop Coleman Carroll is having. The Bulldogs have started their season in scorching hot fashion with a 4-0 start with dominating wins over Florida Christian, ABF Academy, Palmer Trinity, and SmartEn Sports Academy. We will take a deeper look into the Bulldogs success this season and see why the team has seen so much success in the early part of the year.
To do this, we will take a step back and look at The Bulldogs season last year when this newfound taste for excellence emerged. The team finished 11-2 with one of those two losses coming at the hands of nationally ranked Chaminade-Madonna by 40 points in what would be Coleman Carroll’s final game of the year. It was also the beginning of their tenacious and effective run game led by Class of 2024 senior running back Alejandro Isaza who was putting up a resounding 110.8 yards a game and was named all-county first team. This prolofic run game is this teams bred and butter and has been dating back to last season.
What has been making Coleman Carroll Football so successful this season is more of the same formula that propelled them last season with a slight difference. The difference? They are stagnating teams on defense. The only stat you need to look at to confirm that statement is how the 4-0 team has given up a total of 7 points this entire season. The leader of this defense has been class of 2026 Jonas Taylor with 4 sacks so far this season and 3.3 tackles a game on the d-line. Taylor has been a force to be rockoned with. Their running game is supercharged just as it was last season but by a new senior running back named Joshua Riveria who has been one of the best at the position in the county by putting up 116.8 yards per game. The familiar ground and pound offensive dominance combined with the improved defense is a sweet recipe that has proved to be sustainable and effective for this squad.
With such a hot start to the season, The Bulldogs’ future certainly seems bright. With a slight cavoite being that they really haven’t played anyone up to their level. Their week one opponent Florida Christian was the only team who was in the slightest bit formattable by being able to put up a solid fight that ended with the Bulldogs ending up victorious with a final score of 14-7 . This team will cool down at some point no doubt, but they are a team to be aware of in class 1A given their ability to dominate both sides of the ball with intensity, solid game plans, game-calling, and talent.
